A DRAG AND DROP GAMEPLAN TO TURBOCHARGE YOUR BJJ GUARD SWEEPS GAME

BY BJJ BLACK BELT STEPHAN KESTING AND GRAPPLEARTS.COM

This app contains a complete Butterfly Guard quickstart program.

With video-based instruction youll get most important techniques in the Butterfly Guard. The techniques that work for beginners in their first month, as well as advanced guys competing in the biggest tournaments of the world.

All the material covered works in both BJJ with the gi and also in no-gi submission grappling.

In Seven Days to Better Guard Sweeps we break this position down for you and give you a plan.

With this plan youll always know exactly what you should be doing next, no matter if your opponent is on his knees or standing on his feet, close to you or far away from you.

This is a quick start program because it focuses on the really high percentage stuff - the stuff that works most often. That’s why the training is very focused and step-by-step.

It takes about seven days of practice for people to get comfortable enough with the material for it to start working on their training partners (hence the name of the app).

In BJJ and submission grappling there are a ton of different types of guards, including the closed guard, the open guard, and the half guard.

The very best grapplers prefer an active guard – one where theyre attacking and making stuff happen. And one of the most aggressive guards is a variation of Open Guard called the Butterfly Guard.

The Butterfly Guard - the focus of this app - is an incredibly powerful position built for sweeping, sweeping, sweeping.

When you take a look at the world champions whove used the Butterfly Guard (Marcelo Garcia, Leo Santos and Jean Jacques Machado to name but a few) they have very diverse body types. Long legs, short legs, tall and skinny, stout and wide, light, heavy. So almost everyone can use this guard

But what is it about the Butterfly Guard that makes it such a powerful sweeping position?

First of all, if youre doing the Butterfly Guard correctly then youre sitting upright, not lying flat on the ground

That makes it a lot easier to be mobile. You can move around. You dont have your opponents weight resting on you pinning you down.

Also your legs and your feet are free to move. So you can quickly move under his center of gravit to sweep him.

Once youre sitting in the Butterfly Guard you can lift him up, tilt him left, and tilt him right using the power of your strongest body part - your legs.

Also because your legs arent locked into place its relatively easy to transition from the Butterfly Guard into many other types of open and half guard, allowing you to use combinations and attacks that he wont be expecting.

Finally its a lot easier to generate momentum in the Butterfly Guard…

In Butterfly Guard you have the options to fall to your side, fall backwards, come forwards, or even stand up. These movements can be used to attack your opponent, using gravity to your advantage.

Now there are many different attacks from Butterfly Guard, but the reality is that you mostly see just a handful of them being used again and again.

This is the 80/20 rule in action. The rule that states 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts? Only a handful of techniques are responsible for the lions share of the sweeps that actually get people from the bottom to the top in training, and in competition.

And it’s this core of effective techniques that you’ll get in this app. It’ll give you an aggressive, attacking guard... quickly and easily… in seven days… for seven bucks!

BONUS: If you purchase this app youll also get a multipage illustrated PDF document for free. This document breaks down ALL the techniques covered in the app. It is formatted so that that you can email, print, or save to your device.

Pros and cons of 7 Days to Better Guard Sweeps app for iPhone and iPad

7 Days to Better Guard Sweeps app good for

I really like what you see in this app. The content is high quality, as always with the Grapplearts videos. But I feel that this (and all other BJJ apps on the store for that matter) could greatly benefit from some added app-like qualities. This is basically a video player and the app lets you play 2-10 minute long clips. These will help you become a better BJJ player, no question there, but unless there are better ways to navigate videos, e.g. use bookmarks or see a better structure of what is covered where I will stay one star shy of the best possible rating.
This is one of my favourite Apps by Stephan so far - great gameplan, all movements strung together in a Strategic gameplan. Not just the how - but also the why, when and where... Thanks!
Everything grapple arts puts out is solid. Ive been a fan for the two yrs Ive been taking Jiu Jitsu. He is very knowledgable and he explains things in a very easy to understand format. Support Stephan and improve your game. Win win.

Some bad moments

This is a great overview for butterfly guard and sweeps with just enough detail without being laborious to watch. I have viewed it a couple times and Ive already started incorporating some of the tips into my game. Definitely worth more than $6.99!
Well structured, clear and concise instruction. Well worth it.
A casual yet thorough crash course in butterfly guard. Its like you right on the mat with Kesting. One view and you can Apply techniques instantly to your roll.
Stephans knack for teaching to all levels and explanation of "what ifs" to each position is top notch! This app is definitely a must buy tool to have with you for drilling and non mat time study! Keep up the great work guys!
Stephan has a variety of apps that all seem to be very well done. Thoughtful, clear and a great value. I am a white belt and just starting my BJJ journey, so this stuff is very helpful to me. Cant speak to higher level belts, but if you are just starting out, this stuff is gold.
If you to learn the basics or improve your existing guard sweeps, this app is a must have for any BJJ practitioner. Stephan is a master of breaking down moves and making the complex, simple and easy to understand.
